It's Snack Time!

Hello there!
Today's post is pretty simple but I think it will help some of you when deciding what to eat as snacks. First of all, I think that it is important that you know that a "snack time", as I like to call it,  should take place in between and after your big meals every 2 hours.
For example, this is my eating routine everyday...

8 AM: Breakfast
10 AM: Snack Time
12 PM: Lunch
2 PM: Snack Time
4 PM: Dinner
6 PM: Snack Time

It is really important that you eat at least 5 times a day to keep your metabolism going.
I know there are some people that don't get hungry throughout the day but it
is essential to your body to keep giving it food.
So what to eat during snack time? Choose a protein and a carbohydrate. You should always try to pair those two up during snack time because they work together; the protein foods contain fiber which help you stay fuller and the carbohydrates give you energy. What I usually like to eat as my protein food is mozzarella string cheese (because its one of the few cheeses that are low in fat), nonfat yogurt, or almonds/nuts. As for my carbohydrates, I either choose a fruit or vegetable. I love pairing up the string cheese with grapes! But actually, the choices are endless. I also like to keep small plastic bags with about 3 oz. of baby carrots in case I don't feel like eating fruit. For those of you who enjoy shakes, you can also make a fruit shake and add protein powder and that'll count as your snack. (By the way, I love making shakes after workouts, it's very satisfying!)
Another thing to consider is that you should try to switch up what you eat during your snack time. You don't want your body to adapt to eating the same exact thing every day, so switch it up!
And like always, remember to eat in small portions!

Feel free to comment below and leave your favorite snack foods or if you have any comments or questions!

What's for Dinner?

Hello friends!
Today's post is based on what I had for dinner last night... Lettuce wrapped - carne asada (beef) - pinto bean tacos! I love making myself tacos because they're super easy to make and I don't feel guilty after eating them lol. I believe that the best alternative to tortillas is romaine lettuce. I know, I know, romaine lettuce ain't got nothing on tortillas! BUT in times where you want to loose weight and watch what you eat, you must replace them with something else. I love making these kind of tacos because to me, it tastes just as good as if I were having tacos with tortillas. So here's how to make them...
Grab your romaine lettuce, take out 2 good leaves (avoid ones with holes, you don't want your taco to fall apart!), and wash them...
Grab a decent size portion of carne asada... mine was about as big as my entire hand...
Grab your tongs and knife, and begin to chop it up into smaller pieces...
I had some pinto beans from a few days ago so I heated up about 1 cup... Usually I'll use black beans because they're healthier so if you can, get black beans instead!
Finally, lay your beans on the romaine lettuce leaves then add the chopped carne asada! I also had some chile that my mom had freshly made and decided to add that too!

Remember to keep your portions small, whether you decide to use beef or chicken. Feel free to add avocado or fresh salsa of your choice! Hope you get to try it out and enjoy!

Welcome!

Hello & Welcome!

First off let me explain that this is the first ever blog that I run therefore my skills aren't all that great (just yet!).

Now, let me explain who I am.
My name is Carolina. I'm 19 years young, born on November 15, 1992. I'm Mexican American, born in the beautiful city of Los Angeles, Ca.  I'm a full time student in Woodbury University in Burbank, Ca. studying fashion design. I'm a sister of the Latina sorority, Sigma Omega Nu. I've got a pretty creative mind... besides being a fashion designer I'm also a baker and cake decorator, I like anything hands on and that includes making, decorating, or creating.

The reason why I decided to start this blog is quite simple. A few months ago I begun my journey to loose weight. So far I have lost 15 lbs. and let me tell you that it has not been easy. Coming from a Mexican family, it has been hard to stay away from tortillas, meat, and all the good Mexican food. BUT I've managed to get through it. Most people will think that to loose weight you must cut down on everything, that's not true. I used to have that point of view but it all changed when I actually started eating right, working out, and loosing weight. It was also very hard for me to get started, therefore my first and most important tip to start is that YOU HAVE TO WANT IT. If you don't, you won't get the results you want and eventually will forget or quit trying.

That's it for right now friends! Stay tuned for my posts on foods, fitness, and once in a while personal style/ events. If you have any questions or comments, don't hesitate to comment below! :)
